Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo

Let me present you to one of the most scenic and romantic beaches there is in Portugal. The view from the beach is to die for if you like the combination of white and yellow limestone cliffs, green Mediterranean vegetation, rocky outcrops and a dark turquoise blue sea. It lies close to the town of Sesimbra, like one hour south of Lisbon by car, which is a wonderful old fishing village with some of the best seafood restaurants in the country. So don't give that town a miss if you are already in this part of the world.

The name of the beach would translate to something as: Beach of the stream of the horse. So where is that horse? It is the rock by the water, in the middle of the beach, which you can define as looking like a horse's head in a certain angle. In low tide there are some cave like formations there and you can go (Ha! Who am I kidding? I mean crawl) through. So if you got some playful kids or want to take some awesome photographs with your handsome better half then you should definitely go for it.

The best part of this beach is that it is usually never too full with people...how come? Well, you can't get all the way there by car. Either you are the proud owner of a boat and can arrive in style or you have to make a steep downhill/uphill climb by foot and might arrive a bit more dusty. The water itself is usually quite chilly but it is hard to find cleaner water nowadays so just embrace the knowledge that it is healthy to take cold baths for your immune system. Did I mention the view by the way? It is definitely worth the climb! Just remember to bring some good shoes and not flip flops like I did... we live and we learn.

Please do not throw away any waste in this part, you are basically in the wilderness and nobody is going to clean up so take your garbage back with you. Nature thanks in advance!
