Taberna do Lis
This restaurant lies in the Baixa district of Lisbon, on the Rua dos Douradores, in a corner of a building and in connection to a 4 star hotel called Hotel Lis. It is newly renovated and decorated with wine boxes, tiles and bottles on the shelves. Excellent wine glasses, fine dinner plates and enough quiet for you to be able to talk to whomever you go there with. Perfect restaurant for bringing your spouse or a friend with you for a tête à tête.
The prices are affordable and you get good quality food and wine for your money. We asked what they have to offer and ordered something that was not on the menu (do try this at all the restaurants you go to, sometimes you might miss a daily special if you just look at the menu). The main dish we ordered was linguini with scampi in a tomato/vegetable stock and wine sauce. To accompany that dish we ordered a bottle of white vinho verde which is a dry and crisp Portuguese wine from the Northwestern parts of the country with some mineral notes. Perfect to pair with seafood, once you try vinho verde you generally never want to have normal white wine with shellfish again, it is that good a match.
For dessert we opted for a very regional dish from the Alentejo area, called Sericaia (the spelling may vary, a loved child has many names as the Swedish saying goes). It is a delicious cake made out of flour, eggs, milk, sugar, lemon, cinnamon and with a drizzle of honey followed by a honey drenched plum on top. Divine! And this sericaia was beautifully presented on the round schist plate.
One of my new favourite restaurants in this area of the city. I'd rate it with 4,5 out of 5. Do come by and have a tasty dinner at the Taberna do Lis!
