Veganapati - A vegan restaurant in Lisbon


Today I visited this vegan restaurant in Lisbon for the first time. I love to try all kinds of different food so I felt that it was time for a proper green meal. It is a medium sized place with seats both indoors and outdoors in the middle of downtown Lisbon in the Baixa neighbourhood. The street where it lies, Rua da Prata, is one of the busier streets in this area, many tourists and Portuguese walk here daily. So in case you are just strolling around this part of town and want to try some vegan food with a touch of various international cuisines and a modern touch, do drop in and have a bite.

The prices are quite normal for a European capital, neither cheap nor expensive. We had to figure out what we wanted to have a go at and order from the menu but in the end we decided to try the:

SEITAN BIO “PICA-PAU”, RED CABBAGE PICKLES, CACO BREAD


HOLI - CHICKPEA AND QUINOA PATTY, TOMATO CHUTNEY, PICKLED RED CABBAGE, TOMATO, ARUGULA. SERVED w/SWEET POTATO FRIES AND BEET KETCHUP.

MISO RAMEN, TOFU, SHIITAKE, SEAWEED, GREEN ONION

WHITE CHOCOLATE AND BAOBAB TART

It was really tasty, the two really big surprises was the Pica-Pau Seitan, especially the sauce which they managed to get into perfection, just like the one you get with meat normally. The double chocolate tart was also very nice, who can resist pure chocolate after all? I'd give this place 4 stars out of 5, worth visiting, especially for lunch or an afternoon snack.

Dragon and Medieval lovers, there is a town for you out there in the Portuguese Alentejo region. It has charm, ruins, great food as well as a rich history and kind people. Taberna do Lis

This restaurant lies in the Baixa district of Lisbon, on the Rua dos Douradores, in a corner of a building and in connection to a 4 star hotel called Hotel Lis. It is newly renovated and decorated with wine boxes, tiles and bottles on the shelves. Excellent wine glasses, fine dinner plates and enough quiet for you to be able to talk to whomever you go there with. Perfect restaurant for bringing your spouse or a friend with you for a tête à tête. The prices are affordable and you get good quality food and wine for your money. We asked what they have to offer and ordered something that was not on the menu (do try this at all the restaurants you go to, sometimes you might miss a daily special if you just look at the menu). The main dish we ordered was linguini with scampi in a tomato/vegetable stock and wine sauce. MAAT - the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology

By the riverside in Lisbon you can nowadays discern a white modern building that seems to fit in perfectly with it's older surroundings. I am usually not a fan of modern architecture, I almost never swoon over something younger than Art Noveau, but in this case I shall admit that they have managed to do something beautiful with modern building techniques. The building is the new museum called MAAT. A museum with temporary exhibitions regarding art, architecture and technology. It was built by the EDP Foundation (Energias de Portugal) in 2016. The architect firm responsible for the building was AL_A (Amanda Levete Architects) from London and the exterior landscape project by the Lebanese architect Vladimir Djurovic. The MAAT lies in the Belém area of Lisbon, just by the riverside, close to where the Tejo river meets the sea.
